To support the work of third-party patches, Google issued the following statement: "If the affected version of [WebView] is earlier than version 4.4, we usually do not develop patches ourselves, but we will accept reports." They also added: "Apart from notifying the OEM, we will not be able to process reports that affect versions prior to 4.4 without a fix."
So why doesn't Google fix the security holes? There may be multiple reasons, but the main reason indicates that the security hole is deeply buried in the operating system. And to restart the operating system update, they must start releasing operating system updates with the OEM to address security issues. The severity of the vulnerability can be assessed based on the size of the operating system updates Google needs to fix the vulnerability.
